Visual Experiments

Here are some of the various visual experiments, particularly audio-reactive generative visuals, I’ve working on as a way to get familiar with new tools and techniques. Click on the videos and play them with sound.

Nostalgia Video Sampler

Created a custom video sampler setup for Touchdesigner to use with my MPD32 where I sample from a selection of found footage while ‘crate digging’ through the Internet Archive video section. The first experiments used old school cartoons and videogame footage over the  A-side of This is Isto nem é uma beattape, Vol.02 by Portuguese producer Maria

Particles Experiments

For our Blauhaus studio party I had an excuse to play with more with Touchdesigner. Here are some of experiments using a 3D scanned point cloud of the studio, a kinect or just generative noise that reacts to the kicks and snares of a track. This time following the samples and scratching of

To celebrate the 50 years of Portuguese Carnation Revolution as the day of liberty. Because of that I made this small audiovisual piece that fully embraces the art of sampling. The audio is produced in Koala Sampler using a reworked melody from “Canção de Embalar”, a song from Portuguese songwriter Zeca Afonso, the drums are from “Casa” a song from Da Weasel and the voice is from a found interview with Portuguese writer José Saramago. The visuals were made in Touchdesigner using a 3D scan found in Polycam and made by Luis Zuniga . Sometimes the words of Saramago are difficult to translate but they speak for themselves. However it’s always critical to remind ourselves how important it is to believe in something and act today for a better tomorrow.
